Welcome to the new River Valley Geocachers website. We are a group of Geocachers geographically located within the Clarks River, Cumberland River, Tennessee River, Ohio River, and Mississippi River valleys. As such, most of our members are primarily from the states of Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Illinois, but we welcome members from anywhere. The purpose of this group is to give local cachers a place to come together and discuss Geocaching topics.
As of January 1, 2009, there were 2072 active caches within 100 miles of our geographic center of Paducah, Ky. Located within
a short distance of our region are two Federally maintained National Parks known for their scenic landscapes, natural beauty, and historic sites. Both of these areas are open to the sport of geocaching within their boundaries.
The Shawnee National Forest lies in the rough, unglaciated area known as the Illinois Ozark and Shawnee Hills of southern Illinois. Currently, there are 54 active caches located within the boundaries with several plans in the development for several more to be placed in the future.
The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area; 170,000 acres of undeveloped, uninhabited land situated on a peninsula between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake in western Kentucky. Currently, there are 121 active caches located within the boundaries of the Land Between the Lakes NRA.
Outside of geocaching, our members enjoy biking, camping, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, bird watching, rock-climbing/rappelling, and just being outdoors as much as possible. Most of all - We enjoy spending time together talking about our favorite sport - GEOCACHING! We love meeting new people, so log on to our forum or, better yet, join us at our next event!
