LBL Planning

I saw in the Paducah Sun that LBL is seeking input on sites of historic value
LBL Planning

That webpage has a document for their Heritage Implementation Plan. You can search the document for "geocaching" to see how we have helped make them aware that people are interested in knowing about the different historical sites in LBL.

That is awesome, I am glad to see they are taking and interest in the heritage sites. When we visited "If Walls Could Talk" Cache I wondered if the building has been concealed by growth until they recently dozed around it prior to the prescribed burn that went around the property. I am interested in learning about any areas that they know about that the general public has not known about. I hope this is something that will bring the Silo back and hopefully some prehistoric sites.

I would love to see the Silo reopen too. You hear it mentioned from time to time, but there always is the mention of cost. There are several things they could do heritage wise and with existing sites and structures that would make LBL such a wonderful place for people to go. It might even get some of the thousands of campers that come each year to the campgrounds to venture out and explore LBL.

I am afraid that the Silo, however loved it is, will not be making a return. IT sits almost too close to the old Empire farm area that is now part of the Eagle Nesting Area and God forbid anyone get near that. I want to explore the old farm, but not at the risk of going to Federal Prison over it.

Do you think that LBL really wants to bring attention to some of these sites that they did their best to destroy 60 years ago? OR do youthink that they figure no one cares anymore?

Joe,

What "Prehistoric"sites are you referring too? I have heard tales of some really cool things, but haven't investigated since summer came up and you know how I am about the crawlers. Message me if nothing else. You have my curiousity peaked.

Mike

I don't know of any specific locations, I have heard of Native American sites but I do not know where any are located. However if any are found then then they are supposed to do an evaluation of the site and determine the heritage value and what (if any) level of protection is needed an how to share the information with the public.
All of this heritage preservation is new but I have seen information on Shawnee National forest site as well so it is something money has been set aside for so I hope they use it well and highlight and preserve a lot o little known sites out there.

I was out near Empire farm and I was wandering what the status was with Eagles out there now. I heard the power line workers knocked the nest down and I did not see a nest when I was looking.

I haven't heard anything lately, but that makes me curious,Joe. I'll check into it and see what I can dig up on the Eagle site out at the old empire farm area.

Ok . . . . From what I can gather of the situation:

The eagles, for one reason or another, have moved over a bit.

The old Empire Farm facility is slated to become the NEW historical facility concerning the cultural and historic preservation pland they have for LBL.

We'll have more information for you as it becomes available. ;)
