Fall Campout

Postby formykidz » Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:41 am

Well, we've made it through the spring campout, the night at LBL/Energy lake campout, so what's up for the fall campout?

What do you want to do, do you have any suggestions or requests?

The only request that I have heard is that Airmapper's mom Karla wants to go to southern IL sometime this fall. It can be the RVG fall campout or we can schedule another camping trip.

I suggested to mom that the RVG Fall campout might fall in line with her wanting to camp out there. I know she has a few weekends tied up already with the volunteer work later in the year. I'll try to figure out which ones are definitely out for her.

What is our target month for this? Personally I'm all for another trip to Southern Ill. but whatever the group wants to do is great, means I might get 2 trips out of the deal.

I'm thinking September or October. Or whenever the heat breaks. Man the heat is about to drive me nuts, it is just not fun!.

Everyone can throw out the dates they are available and we can pick dates that the most people can go.

Travis check with Karla and see what her schedule is (I know the Therapeutic Riding center's Mane Event is on Oct. 16). I'm not opposed to more than one camping trip. If there are dates that some are available and others aren't we can schedule as many as is fun, and in as many locations as is fun.

Currently we have all of September and October except for the weekends of September 18th (most likely) and October 2.

Sorry, I got side tracked

I'm all for So. IL I'm game for most weekends, but agree with Joe about waiting until the heat breaks.

Airmapper....does your mom have a list of weekends she has open? I saw her at the LBL event, but didn't get to talk to her.

Do you think I can get out for a weekend with RVG without the kidz? ummmm some stealth may be required

From what I can tell it seems mom is only unavailable the weekend of the 16th in October. She has several weekends booked in Sept. though.

When will the fall colors be at their brightest?

Sometime last October and hopefully again next year. I suspect with the heat and the lack of rain that we have had, that by about mid September all the leaves will just turn brown and fall off. We went to IL yesterday for the first time in about a month and we could not believe how dry everything was. There are already a lot of brown trees also roadsides and a lot of fields are brown.

So lets talk about some possible dates.

How does the weekend of September 25th or October 9th sound?

Is anyone going to attend the Pennyrile weekend? I just saw where it interferes with one of the suggested weekends.

On the way from Lexington to Benton this week I noticed a few patches of hilllside where the leaves are already changing colors. I think they may have been colorfully turning brown, but there were some nice oranges and reds visible. Far too early, though...

Either date is fine with me and the kidz ( and hopefully Mr. Kidz) However, if you have it in Sept, members won't have to choose which event to go to. If I recall, some went to Pennyrile last year. Just my opinion

Good point Michelle! As of now either date works for me. I haven't decided if I want to go to Pennyrile or not this year. So whatever you decide I will be up for. I am planning a trip to Oklahoma so I need to know if we do it in Oct. so I can plan my trip accordingly. Looking forward to it on whatever date we decide on. :-)

I was thinking the same thing after I saw the Pennyrile event is in the weekend in OCT. I have really enjoyed that weekend in the past. I was bummed because it did not work out for us to spend the entire weekend last year. I hate to plan something on the same weekend as another event and take anything away from them but Brenda and I are up for either weekend - or possibly up for both weekends.

Right now one weekend looks as good as the other.

I usually try to make Pennyrile, but this year I'm thinking about skipping it. I like to support Becky and the state parks interest in hosting Geocaching activities, but it seems I've been all over that park now.

I'll be going to the RVG campout if it conflicts with Pennyrile.
